The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has launched a comprehensive human resource plan to strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially for persons with disabilities (PWD). Committed to fostering a supportive work environment, NBP is dedicated to bridging the gap in PWD representation and celebrating all abilities.

Current Representation and Future Goals

Currently, the National Bank of Pakistan employs 165 workers with disabilities, which is 1.12% of the total workforce. NBP aims to meet the permitted capacity requirement of 2% (300 people) by the end of 2024, as per State Bank of Pakistan guidelines.

To achieve this goal, NBP presents a comprehensive three-year roadmap:

  • Encouraging Applications: NBP actively encourages PWDs to apply for job opportunities by including inclusive language in all advertisements, thereby also promoting the participation of female PWDs.
  • Identifying Appropriate Roles: Collaborate with departments and divisions to identify appropriate roles that can effectively contribute to the skills and expertise of PWDs.
  • Partnerships: Partnerships with organizations such as Purple Tuesday, NOWPDP, and Connect Hear, which focus on the inclusion and empowerment of PWDs.
  • Sensitization Training: Conduct regular sensitization training for employees across the country to ensure workforce understanding of the needs and requirements of PWDs.
  • Accessible Services: Launch model branches that offer accessible services and facilities to meet the needs of PWD customers.
  • Accessibility standards: Also ensure that physical buildings and digital platforms are accessible, user-friendly, and meet international accessibility standards.
  • Assistive Technology: Provide technology and equipment for workers with disabilities to improve efficiency and comfort.
  • Dedicated support system: Also, create a dedicated support system within the organization to address the unique needs and concerns of PWD employees.
  • Community Outreach: Participate actively in public information programs and collaborate with local organizations to create awareness about disability inclusion.

Phased Approach to Quota Fulfillment

NBP’s plan to implement the 2% quota involves a phased approach that includes partnering with organizations to set policies, conduct internships, recruit teams, and recruit candidates.
