CM Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme Launched by Maryam Nawaz
CM Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched the CM Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme in Punjab, which aims to provide relief from rising electricity costs to one million consumers in the province.
According to an official press release from CM House, the solar panel scheme in Punjab is designed for electricity consumers consuming up to 200 units per month, enabling them to switch to solar power without any cost. Applications for the scheme can be submitted through the online portal cmsolarscheme.punjab.gov.pk or through SMS, making the registration process accessible and straightforward.
The initiative builds on previous measures where millions of Punjabis benefited from electricity subsidies and underlines the government’s commitment to channel public resources towards the public welfare.

Under this scheme, 100,000 solar systems will be distributed over the next year. Consumers who consume up to 100 units of electricity per month will receive 550-watt solar systems, while those who consume up to 200 units will receive 1,100-watt solar systems.
The program is expected to significantly reduce electricity bills for eligible consumers and contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions by approximately 57,000 tonnes per year.
To ensure transparency, a computerized voting system will be used to select recipients. Verification will include reference numbers and CNIC numbers on monthly electricity bills. In addition, a helpline will be set up to assist consumers with the registration and installation processes.
Authorities stressed that solar panels and inverters will be linked to consumers’ CNICs to prevent theft, and the initiative is expected to reduce the federal government’s subsidy burden while promoting renewable energy in Punjab.
