Tips to Staying Safe During a Snowstorm (Murree Weather)

The best advice to avoid the situation is to stay at home and avoid travel to Murree and nearby areas. However, if you can’t avoid visiting the popular hill station for any reason, make sure you keep up to date with Pakistan Meteorological Department weather warnings so you know the road conditions. Before you go to Murree, you need to book a hotel or have a place to stay. However, even if you have a specific location, keep the following items in your car to stay warm and safe:

  1. Wool blankets and comforters
  2. Sleeping bag
  3. Sweatshirts and sweatpants
  4. Mittens
  5. Mufflers
  6. Gloves
  7. Socks
  8. Non-perishable healthy food items like chickpeas, dried fruits and water
  9. Snow chains

Whatever you do, never keep your car on in the snow, even when you’re asleep. It can build up carbon monoxide (CO) inside the car cabin. CO is colorless and odorless. You can’t smell or see. But it is very dangerous.

The tips mentioned above will come in handy if you are stuck in the snow and have nowhere to go.

Other Areas Likely to Get Snowfall

Apart from Murree, areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are also likely to receive snowfall during this period. Residents and visitors of the Haveli, Poonch, Bagh, Neelum valley, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, Shangla, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohistan, Swat, Dir, Kaghan, Naran, and Galiyat regions should be extra careful.
