How to Transfer Car Title of a Deceased Person in Pakistan: The first step to transferring ownership of a deceased person’s car is to obtain a succession certificate. Moreover, after the succession certificate or Family Registration Certificate (FRC) is completed, Form F or Form 31 is submitted to the Excise and Taxation Department to transfer ownership of the car.

Documents Required for Processing of Succession Certificate

  • Death Certificate
  • ID Card cancellation
  • Family Registration Certificate (FRC)
  • ID card copies of legal heirs
  • Original ID card of applicants 
  • Affidavit according to NADRA format
  • Original documents of the car and its copy

Note: Carry all original documents along with a copy also of each required document.

How to Transfer Car Title of a Deceased Person in Pakistan: Below are the steps to obtain the required documents and also complete the ownership transfer.

Step 1: Submit all the above documents to obtain a Family Registration Certificate (FRC) or Succession Letter from the NADRA Office or Court. All legal heirs must undergo biometric verification at the nearest NADRA office for confirmation.

Step 2: After successful processing, the succession certificate will be issued. Now visit the Excise and Tax Office with the following documents:

  • Succession certificate
  • Family registration certificate
  • Death certificate
  • ID card cancellation letter of the deceased
  • Form F or Form 31 from the Excise department

All these documents without consent to the objection will be submitted to the Department of Excise and Taxation. A tracking ID will be issued based on the ownership transfer request. This ID can also be used to track the process through the Excise and Tax official website.

Once the process is complete, ownership will be transferred and a new smart card will be issued to the new owner of the vehicle.

Things to Consider During the Transfer of Ownership:

  1. It is important to know that the succession certificate is processed in the district or city where the vehicle is registered. For example, if the car is registered in Lahore, the succession will be processed at the NADRA offices in Lahore.
  2. Biometric verification is also must for succession certificate. It cannot be issued if the legal heirs are awaiting biometric verification.
  3. If someone objects or claims ownership of the vehicle while the succession certificate is being processed, the process stops.
  4. The whole process can take up to a month, if not longer. succession certificate can take 2 weeks to process and also the same for Excise and Taxation department.
