20 Most Beautiful Places in Pakistan

Without further ado, here are the 20 most beautiful places in Pakistan (in no particular order), the country that stole my heart fast and furious.

1. Swat Valley

Although it has a rough past, the present and future of the Swat Valley shine very brightly. This amazing valley in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is something straight out of a fairy tale.

Most Beautiful Places in Pakistan - Sawat Valley

Imagine bright green fields and forests, picturesque villages, and rivers boasting shades of blue so bright and clear you wouldn’t even think they were real!

The real beauty of Swat can be found around the town of Kalam, which serves as a base for exploring the beauty of the valley. Here are 3 must-see places in Swat Valley:

Boyun Village

Boyun, also known as Green Top, is a short drive or manageable uphill walk from Kalam town. When you finally reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with a panorama of one of the most extensive and beautiful villages I’ve ever seen, along with stunning views of the valley below. Boyun is an easy day trip from Kalam.

Kandol and Spindhor Lakes

These alpine lakes are located 2 hours from Kalam. Currently, Kandol Lake is accessible via a jeep track and is a bit more commercialized, while Spindhor is only a 2-hour trek to reach. Whichever one you choose to visit, both are among the most beautiful places in Pakistan.

Ushu Forest

Full of deodar trees, this preserved forest is a great place to get lost. The road that leads into the forest continues to several villages along the Kalam River.

2. Hunza Valley

If you live in Pakistan or have read about the country. It is almost certain that you have come across the name Hunza. But don’t let the word ‘valley’ fool you. Hunza is actually a huge district made up of numerous valleys and villages. One part of the ancient Silk Road, here are some of the most beautiful sights in Hunza:

Passu Cones

Passu Cathedral is a natural work of art and one of the most beautiful places in Pakistan. Although overnight stays are no longer allowed in the village of Passu, the cones are already visible from a distance, starting from the village of Gulmit. The most iconic view of the cathedral is from the Karakoram Highway, about an hour’s drive from Gilgit City.

Attabad Lake

A lake that doesn’t look real… even if you’re standing right in front of it. Attabad was born out of tragedy when a massive landslide occurred in 2010. The flow of the Hunza River was blocked, and the lake known today was created in its wake. Its bright blue, turquoise waters make it one of the most beautiful places in Pakistan.

Eagle’s Nest

Want to see one of the most epic sunsets in the Hunza Valley? Head to the Eagle’s Nest around golden hour! The name comes from the luxury hotel/restaurant nearby, but you can drive to the lookout without going there.

3. Yarkhun Valley

Although relatively unheard of and forgotten compared to Pakistan’s most famous tourist spots, I think the Yarkhun Valley was the most beautiful place I visited in the country. Located in the Upper Chitral district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Yarkhun dazzles with its mountain ranges and pristine villages.

Getting into the valley, which stretches for many kilometers beyond the administrative town of Mastuj, requires a bit of effort if you don’t have your own vehicle. However, if you have one, the ride isn’t too bad—just be prepared for mostly dirt roads!

The Gazin Side Valley is definitely worth a detour if you make it all the way to Yarkhun. Here you can see the mountains of Thoi Pass, a high mountain pass that connects Upper Chitral with the Yasin Valley in Gilgit Baltistan.

4. Phander Lake

Located in Phander village, Phander Lake is too good to be true. A blue-green lake sits quietly among the pale green trees, as befits a landscape painting. Despite being insanely beautiful, Phander Lake doesn’t see as many tourists as the more popular Attabad Lake.

5. Broghil Valley

Located in the north in close proximity to Afghanistan’s Wakhan Corridor, the Broghil Valley was previously only accessible via trek or horseback. These days, the once-hidden site is accessed by a treacherous jeep track, yet only a handful of visitors still come during the few months when it’s not frozen under piles of snow.

It is currently debatable whether or not outsiders can visit Broghil. (If you insist, make sure you check with the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Chitral before going up.) But Pakistanis, please go and see the beauty! The valley is home to many alpine lakes, yaks and vast green pastures, all set against a dramatic mountainous backdrop that rises above 13,000 feet.

Additionally, a day trek from Lashkargaz, the last village in Broghil, takes you to Karambar Lake, one of the highest in the world!

6. Hingol National Park

Hingol National Park is technically in Pakistan, but it looks more like the planet Mars! The park covers an area of over 6,000 square kilometers and contains incredibly unique rock formations, vast canyons, numerous species of animals and even a mud volcano.

What’s more, part of the national park hugs the coast, adding the ocean to all the other assets. Although Hingol looks completely otherworldly, it is only 3.5 hours from Karachi, Pakistan’s most populous city.

Pakistanis should have no problem entering the park, but foreigners have a mixed experience. Some who were accompanied by local residents were allowed to spend the night/weekend in the park, while others were only given day permits. There is no public transport to the park, so access with your own transport is a must.

7. Kalash Valleys

The Kalash Valley, consisting of Bumboret, Rumbur, and Birir, is home to the Kalash people, a religious and ethnic minority in Pakistan with their own faith, culture, and language. The valleys they live in are certainly some of the most beautiful places in Pakistan—not only for their natural beauty but also for the beauty of the Kalash itself.

The Rumbur Valley is particularly stunning. Here, kilometers of dirt roads and mountains rumble along the Kalash River. The Kalash people live in wooden houses perched on high hills, and the women are particularly known for their brightly colored traditional dresses and headdresses, which are different from anything you’ll find in Pakistan.

Being only 2.5 hours from Chitral city, it is very easy to get to one of the valleys these days. If you decide to head to Rumbur, take a day trip to the valley. The last Rumbur settlement, Sheikhandeh, is a former Nuristani village whose inhabitants moved across the border into Pakistan several hundred years ago.

8. Deosai Plains National Park

Deosai is often referred to as the roof of the world. And so it is. At 4,117 meters (13,497 ft), the massive plateau is the second highest on the planet and is only really accessible in the summer.

Vast emerald green meadows, snow-capped peaks, and sparkling blue lakes welcome visitors who make the journey to this beautiful place. The Himalayan brown bear calls Deosai home and has been spotted by many visitors; watch out for them if you’re camping!

The park charges an entry fee of 1000 rupees for foreigners and 40 rupees for Pakistanis.

9. Shimshal

Although it is a bit out of the way compared to some of the other beautiful tourist spots in Pakistan on this list, the Shimshal Valley is worth the effort required to reach it. The locality is known as a major adventure destination, which is especially popular among rock climbers and mountaineers.

But Shimshal is not only one of the most beautiful places in Pakistan for adrenaline lovers. The village itself is divine in summer. Incredibly, it relies almost entirely on solar energy! Easier short hikes to the nearby yak pastures can also be arranged, as can just wandering around with impressive views and fields of mustard yellow flowers.

10. Naltar Valley

The Naltar Valley is about 54 kilometers (34 mi) from the city of Gilgit in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. A popular tourist attraction, it is known for its dramatic forests, collection of crystal-clear lakes, and skiing facilities in winter.

Although many tourists come only for the slopes, I think the real magic of Naltar can only be seen in the summer months when the lakes don’t freeze and the forests can be best enjoyed.

This magical valley is only accessible by Jeep, but there is public transport from Gilgit. In the two villages in the valley, there are a number of hotels and guest houses for the accommodation of tourists. To avoid peak tourist season, avoid visiting in May and try to come in autumn. You might be lucky enough to catch some impressive foliage in late October.
